LaborScout | B2B, B2C | Job searching platform

📌 Project Context

LaborScout is a recruitment platform that allows recruiters to fully solve the problem of hiring, starting from launching the process by creating a job offer and receiving the first resume; ending with sending an offer to a suitable candidate.

Project Type: Website Design

Team: CEO | CTO | Engineering Team Role: Head of Product Design

Tools: Figma, Miro, Notion

📚 Understanding the problem

Job Seeker | Pain points
  1. There is no primary portal to find job opportunities in Paraguay.

  2. The very few job portals that exists in Paraguay are very hard to use, the information is not clear, most of the job offers are expired.

  3. Looking for a job is a job (networking, filling out applications, searching job sites, etc)

  4. It takes a lot of work to write a resume, job seekers don't know where to start and how to stand out.

  5. It's very common to find very long application forms. Job seekers don't have the time and patience to do this several times.

  6. There is a lack of transparency, no way to know about benefits, salary and team members of the company candidates apply to.

Recruiter Seeker | Pain points
  1. Too many applications. Spam. Information Pollution.

  2. Too many unqualified applicants.

  3. Biased processes.

  4. Poor communication between candidates, it's hard to coordinate a meeting with them.

⚡️ Problem Statement

Job Seeker
Paraguayan citizens don't have an effective platform to find job offers. Looking for a job and finding one is a complex and hard process, takes weeks, even months, it's exhausting and demotivating. They would love to have a platform that allows them to build a resume and apply to interesting job offers.

Recruiter
Paraguayan citizens don't have an effective tool to find a pool of candidates with the necessary skills. The recruitment process is tedious and ineffective. Small businesses and organizations would love to have a platform where they can review resumes and find the best candidates for their job openings.

♦️ The Process

After the preliminary research, I decided to conduct user interviews with our target audience to validate my findings.

From the interviews, the team learned the following:

  • Recruiter, manage a huge amount of applications daily, the process of finding the right talent is complex because applications are reviewed one by one. They review several emails and even folders with printed resume.

  • Job Seeker, don't know where to start when looking for a job, don't know what salary to ask and need to look several websites, social media groups or reach out to contacts to find an opportunity.

Based on these findings I started the ideation process and created the primary user flows necessary for the MVP.

Job Seeker
  • Create resume.

  • Find job offers.

Recruiter
  • Create job offer.

  • Review candidates resume.

♦️ Recruiter view

Recruiter Dashboard. Job offers and candidates.

Recruiter Dashboard. Brief explanation of the content and the value it adds.

Candidate resume view. Explanations of the pieces of content and the WHY behind design decisions.

🌟 The Outcome

In order to deliver a high quality solution, these flows were tested and iterated based on findings.

I also created an entire Design System for Laborscout, which speed up the process of development and provided consistency for this and upcoming releases.

Upcoming Features | Version 2.0

  • Through the use of a new matching algorithm, the idea is to create a ‘Top Match’ or ‘Great Match’ label in candidates' resume. The criteria behind this label will be based on: skills, previous job experience, location, and employment status.

  • Job offers will have the option to be exported as images with custom ratios. These images can be easily shared on other recruitment platforms, social media accounts or company website.

  • The platform will have a calendar view with scheduling options and videoconferencing room for interview meetings.

⛰️ Conclusions

  • Working for a Startup company is always a challenge, it can be chaotic sometimes but asa Designer will have opportunities to explore and innovate.

  • Fail faster, fail better. Thanks to research and usability testing we quickly identify where we needed to refine the design.

  • Listen to your audience. Preliminary research on discovery stage help us identify where we should invest more time, and what where the essentials features for the MVP.

The first version of the product will be launch in March 2023.
